eTwinning Seminar in Nuremberg – Networking, Diversity, and Visions for the Teaching Profession

The MZL had the opportunity to present the project “EGS-LAB” at the eTwinning network meeting “Empowering Tomorrow’s Teachers: Inspiring Student Engagement for Global Citizenship with Erasmus+: eTwinning” in Nuremberg.

From May 22 to 24, 2025, Nils Preissner, research associate at the GSI and Junior Expert for the project EU goes School – Teachers as EU Ambassadors (EGS-LAB) at the MZL, attended the international eTwinning seminar for prospective teachers in Nuremberg together with two students from the LMU. The event proved to be an enriching and inspiring experience. Teacher educators, student teachers, researchers, and colleagues from National Support Organisations from 11 countries came together to discuss the opportunities and challenges of teacher education in a digital and global age.

eTwinning is an online platform for schools that enables (future) teachers and school staff to collaborate, exchange ideas, develop national and international projects, and participate in professional development activities.

One of the highlights was the keynote by Prof. Anatoli Rakhkochkine (FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg) on “Diversity and Social Cohesion in Virtual Collaboration with eTwinning.” His talk impressively demonstrated the central role of intercultural sensitivity and digital skills in the classrooms of tomorrow.

In hands-on workshops, participants collaboratively developed concrete project ideas – ranging from innovative STEM projects from Norway to political education initiatives like the MZL’s EGS-LAB project. Particularly valuable were the insights into the use of eTwinning, TwinSpace, and the European School Education Platform (ESEP).

The greatest benefit, however, came from the personal and professional exchange with fellow future teachers: new perspectives, creative ideas, and the encouraging sense of being part of an international educational community united by shared values and a forward-looking approach to teaching. Special thanks go to the organizers and all contributors – eTwinning connects not only schools but also people with a shared vision!
